11/21 Final Patch Notes

Before I get into my reflection, here's a brief overview of the minor changes I made to my blog:

Changed blog layout

There was no real rhyme or reason to why I decided to have my recent posts show up on the right side of the screen. I guess it was just a matter of my personal taste--I preferred to have the focal point of the blog be on the right hand side instead of the left. Maybe it has something to do with the fact that I'm right-handed? But that's a question for science.

Added subscribe feature

If you scroll all the way down on my #dmcult page, you'll find a form asking for your email address so you can subscribe to my blog. I don't really expect anyone to do this, of course. I added it because recently, I noticed a glitch on my page, so when I used to scroll down, there wouldn't be an option to go to the next page. All my posts would just continue past the bar that says "This site was created with WIX.com." Adding the subscribe feature fixed the problem so now there's no endless scrolling.

And now we reflect.

Throughout this semester, I learned a lot about what it takes to run a website on my own. At first, I really enjoyed the process of designing a virtual space completely to my taste, to represent my personality. Towards the middle of the semester (when everything in life gets overwhelming), I started to see the process as more of a chore. I wrote blog posts just because I was supposed to, not because I enjoyed it. Since maybe a couple weeks ago, I came back to enjoying the process, I think because I had enough posts for my blog to actually look like something, instead of just a sad work in progress.

I touched on this a little bit in my last Patch Notes post, but since I've been accepted to study abroad in Brighton, England in the Spring, After this class ends, this blog will take on a new life, as it will become a travel blog for me to document my time across the pond.
